Former names of streets in Swinoujscie
Charming tenement houses in Art Nouveau style, finesse spa architecture and post-military design are some of many signs proving the city’s rich past. The history of seaside health resort intertwines with the history of neighbouring imperial resorts. Franz Joseph I and the Emperor Wilhelm II were visiting Swinoujscie for holidays. They were followed by rich German burghers and nobles. The convenient railway connection from Swinoujscie to Berlin encouraged visitors from Berlin to spend their leisure time there. Swinoujscie was called „ Berlin’s bathtub”. The city expanded in that time and a special atmosphere of the Baltic Sea resort was formed there. The city as bath resort has permanently left its imprint on the urban planning and architecture.
